Doug Wenzel is a Senior Investment Consultant at Baird, having joined the firm in 1996. He brings more than 32 years of wealth management experience to his relationship with a select number of high net-worth families and endowment funds. Doug works together with clients to help preserve and manage their wealth. Doug is committed to providing clients with objective, high-quality advice and exceptional service to help them simplify their life.
Doug earned his bachelor’s degree with honors from Iowa State University in 1984 and later went on to graduate with honors from the University of Iowa College of Law. After practicing law, Doug became an advisor in 1992. Seeing the benefit for clients of receiving advice from a team, Doug founded with Craig, the Vander Leest and Wenzel Group in 2001. He holds his Certified Investment Management Analyst® certification, in conjunction with The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Doug has also been recognized as a Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisor for Iowa from 2019 through 2025.*
Doug was born and raised in Cedar Rapids and now lives in Iowa City with his wife, Lori. Doug is active in his community and church and is on the Kirkwood Community College Foundation Investment Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Iowa Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of the Cedar Rapids Downtown Rotary and the Cedar Rapids Tennis Association.
Doug has served on numerous other Boards in the past including Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation, Goodwill Industries of the Heartland, Parkview Evangelical Free Church Elder Board, Boy Scouts of America/Hawkeye Area Council and the Board of trustees of the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
